Rhapsody in Scarlet Revealed — Konami's New 1920s New York Action Game Mixes Jazz, Magic and Beasts

Konami officially unveiled Rhapsody in Scarlet during PlayStation's State of Play and State of Play Japan broadcasts.

The newly announced PlayStation 5 action game blends a historically inspired 1920s New York setting with fantasy elements including magic and powerful beasts.

Rhapsody in Scarlet stars Ellie Myers, a young magus who travels to New York to pursue a career as a jazz singer.

After becoming caught up in the schemes of a mysterious mafia organization, Ellie meets Ilya Jones, the leader of a magus organization known as the Seekers. Their conflicting values initially put them at odds as they become involved in events threatening the balance of the world.

Ellie fights using magic while commanding beast companions, including her companion Sköll.

The combat system lets players combine close- and long-range attacks, area-of-effect spells and beast techniques into highly customizable combos that can be adapted to different enemies and situations.

Konami says the team researched 1920s New York to recreate elements including its architecture, fashion, automobiles and Prohibition-era speakeasies.

Historical inspiration is combined with magical districts, beasts and magic, while jazz influenced by the sounds of the era forms an important part of the game's identity.

Alongside the first trailer shown during State of Play, Konami debuted a separate story trailer during State of Play Japan focusing on the characters and narrative.

Rhapsody in Scarlet can be wishlisted now. Konami has not announced a release date in the official reveal material.
